Distilled in 1978, this remarkable whisky is the oldest Brora ever released by Diageo, unveiled as part of the 2011 Special Releases. It offers a wonderfully layered nose and a finely balanced palate with gentle, nuanced peat.
Tasting notes:
Nose – Subtle yet complex with a gentle prickle of white pepper, sweet malt, and fragrant wood smoke. Layers of baked apple, citrus zest, wax, hessian, and creamy vanilla emerge, freshened by menthol, floral notes, and soft lemony biscuit when diluted.
Palate – Bold and spicy at full strength with sweet smoke, charred fruitcake, and a salty, drying edge. With water, it softens into light sweetness, gentle spice, and pastry-like richness.
Finish – Long, warming, and smoky with pepper and wood ash, easing into creamy sweetness, faint mint, and a touch of cool smoke.
